Tuesday 16 Mar 21 Cabrillo National Monument

16 Mar 21

I got up at 8 and after walking the dogs and having the typical oatmeal breakfast I walked back down to the far end of the San Diego Old Town State Park. In one of the many out for shops I found a hummingbird made out of beads. I would have liked a blue one of course but after checking with the attendant we determined that the yellow one was the only one left. She said I could get a blue one shipped to me and gave me the Instagram site to contact. I went ahead and bought the yellow one and will order a blue one for the RT.

I secured everything inside and out and then drove to Cabrillo National Monument. Driving along the narrow peninsula through Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery there were thousands of grave sites on both sides of the road. Every single white headstone was perfectly placed. So orderly and the lawns were amazingly kept.

I drove to the Point Loma Tide Pools and found a fairly level patching spot that I backed into. I walked down the trail to the rock cliffs just above the surf. The tide was high so the tide pools were not accessible. A sign said that Fall and Winter were the best times to check out the pools. The waves were huge and I just sat on the cliff in awe by the beauty of the place. Later I went back to the RT and made a ham and cheese sandwich and took it back to the cliff to eat while enjoying the sight and sound of the surf. Later I took Wiggin  down the trail to the cliffs as well. He was fascinated as well but not by the beauty of the place but rather how many dogs had been there before and peed everywhere. The entire Monument closed at 5 and around 4:45 a ranger informed that the area was now closed.

I intended to go back to the Sam's Club to park for the night but on the way I came across a marina with hundreds of sail boats in slips. On the other side of the narrow peninsula were several sailboats in anchorage. I am seriously considering taking sailing lessons. I have checked into a new school that will be opening in Davao City once the Chinese Communist Party Virus is under control. Lately I have been following a YouTube channel called Sailing GBU. The life of a young couple that bought a sailboat on Craigslist for $5000.

While I was having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner another van parked in front of me. The lady driver came to my door and wanted to know how I mounted the boat rack to the RT. Her name was Chantel and she was a Vandweller. She was from Washington State and spends the summers there but the winters here in San Diego. Her sister has a Dodge Roadtrek 190 Popular. She informed me of a 24 hour parking lot close by and after she left I drove there and parked for the night.
